These terms cover using The Tradesmen Association website as a customer, and holding membership as a tradesperson.

1. What we do, and what we do not do
We run a directory that introduces customers to local tradespeople. We are an introduction service only. We do not carry out building or trade work, we do not employ or subcontract the tradespeople listed, and we are not a party to any agreement you make with them.
Any contract for work — including the price, the schedule, the standard of the work and any guarantee — is directly between you and the tradesperson.
2. Using the directory as a customer
Searching the directory and sending enquiries is free. We do not charge you, and we do not take commission from the tradesperson on work you give them.
We ask you to satisfy yourself that a tradesperson is right for your job before work begins. We recommend getting a written quote, asking to see current insurance, and agreeing payment terms in writing.
What our verification badges mean
Before a member is listed we check photo identification, a current public liability insurance certificate, and trade qualifications where the work requires them. A badge means we saw that document at the time of checking. It is not a guarantee of the quality of any work, and it does not mean we have inspected a job or endorse the member. Insurance and qualifications can lapse between checks.
3. Membership
Fees
Standard membership is £10 per month and Premium membership is £20 per month, both excluding VAT. There is no commission and no charge per enquiry on either tier.
Rolling monthly, no minimum term
Membership is paid monthly by Direct Debit through GoCardless and continues each month until you cancel it. There is no minimum term, no fixed contract length, and no cancellation fee.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from the membership section of your account, by email, or by calling the office. You can also cancel the Direct Debit mandate directly with your bank or through GoCardless.
When you cancel we stop the Direct Debit and your listing stays live until the end of the month you have already paid for. We do not refund part months, and we do not take a further payment after you have cancelled. If you cancel and later want to return, you are welcome to rejoin, though verification checks will need to be repeated.
Price changes
If we change the membership price we will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email. If you do not want to continue at the new price you can cancel before it takes effect.
Failed payments
If a Direct Debit fails we will contact you. If payment is not resolved within 14 days we may hide the listing until it is.
4. Member responsibilities
- Keep your profile accurate and up to date, including coverage areas and contact details.
- Hold valid public liability insurance for the work you advertise, and send us a current certificate when asked.
- Hold any qualification or registration the law requires for the work you advertise, such as Gas Safe or an electrical competent person scheme.
- Only upload images and text you own or have permission to use.
- Respond to enquiries in reasonable time, and treat customers fairly and honestly.
You are responsible for the content on your profile. We may edit or remove content that is inaccurate, misleading, unlawful or offensive.
5. Suspension and removal
We may suspend or remove a listing if a member breaks these terms, if insurance or qualifications cannot be evidenced, if payment is not made, or if we receive serious or repeated complaints that are not resolved. Where it is reasonable to do so we will raise the issue with the member first. If we remove a listing for a breach we do not refund the current month.
6. Complaints
If something goes wrong with work carried out, raise it with the tradesperson first, in writing. We are not able to adjudicate disputes or require a member to carry out remedial work, but we do want to hear about it — complaints inform whether a member stays listed. Contact us on 01843 595337 or through the contact page.
7. Our liability
We provide the directory with reasonable care, but we do not promise the site will always be available or free of errors, and we do not warrant the quality, safety or legality of any work carried out by a member.
We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, we are not liable for loss arising from work carried out by a member, and our total liability to a member is limited to the membership fees paid in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms affects the statutory rights of a consumer.
8. Your content and ours
You keep ownership of the text and images you upload, and you give us permission to display them on the site and in related promotion of the directory while you are a member. The site itself, its design and the Tradesmen Association name remain ours.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects members we will give at least 30 days’ notice by email.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
